HEALTHY FOOD

Some people classify food according to the food pyramid – fats, sugars, proteins, fibers, grains. Others classify them according to food types – fruit, meat, fish and vegetables. Modern dieticians go back to the teachings of our great-grandmothers and say that food has to be colorful.  The color of food is determined by pigments. Pigments not only color fruit, vegetables and other foods, but also protect our organism againts diseases.

Purple food- contains anthocyanin. Delays aging. ( cabbage, fig, grapes, plum, beet)

Red food- contains lycopene, a potent antioxidant. Protects against some types of cancer. Stimulates blood circulation.  (tomato, strawberry, guava, cherry, watermelon)

White food – contina calcium and potassium. Helps in the formation and maintenance of bones. It is basic for the functioning of nerves and muscles. (cheese, milk, cauliflower, potato, banana, rice, mushrooms)

Green food – contains chlorophyll and vitamin A. Detoxes cells.  Inhibits free radicals. (green vegetables and herbs)

Brown food – contains vitamins B and E. prevents anxiety and depression. Reduces the risk of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Provides for better bowel functioning. (nuts, oat meal, cereals, chestnut)

Orange/yellow food – contains vitamin B3, vitamin C and beta carotene. Protects the herat, eyes, and the nervous system. Reduces the risk of cancer. (orange, papaya, carrot, mango, pumkin, peach, apricot)
